Montego Bay

When you think of the captivating beauty of Jamaica, Montego Bay is often the first destination that comes to mind. Located along the main routes of the Western Caribbean, Jamaica has long been a favorite Caribbean cruise destination. The terminal at Montego Bay’s Freeport Zone can dock up to four ships at once and is a great introduction for visitors. In the terminal itself, there is a refreshment stand and several duty-free shops, along with access to several types of licensed transportation. Most popular is the Hot Spot Shuttle that runs from the pier and offers a hop-on/hop-off option for visitors to explore local shops, craft markets, bars, beaches, and restaurants for a fee of $17.

Montego Bay has a number of adventures for tourists. Montpelier Jungle Outpost offers visitors the opportunity to hike, zipline, tube, and kayak while discovering the rich land around the outpost. Waterfalls, orange orchards, and an old sugar factory are a few things you’ll find at the outpost. Those interested in snorkeling have two options in the stunning Cornwall and Doctor’s Cave Beaches. These two beaches are noted for their sparkling white sand and crystal blue waters. Other adventures available in the area are kite surfing, catamaran tours, and diving.

For a more family-friendly water adventure, the Aqua-Sol Theme Park is an excellent choice. Located directly on the beach, this park offers waterslides, a lazy river, beach activities, and a restaurant. For the more relaxing beach-goer or those looking for a fun day in the water, this park is a sure bet.

History and nature fill the bustling city of Montego Bay. The Rockland Bird Sanctuary offers an up-close and personal look at the variety of birds that make their home here. Thousands of birds live here and tours offer a chance to feed hummingbirds and grassquits. The Rose Hall Great House is the most prominent historical area in Montego Bay. This home is a restored architectural masterpiece from the 18th century. Activities at Rose Hall include a 54-hole golf course and a Haunted House Night Tour. For a more comprehensive feel of the area, the John Halls Montego Bay Adventure Tour is the way to go. This tour guides visitors through the countryside and offers a chance to see traditional performances, taste traditional foods, and learn about traditional herbal remedies.

Jamaica is synonymous with the Caribbean, and Montego Bay remains one of its most popular cruise destinations. Check out Montego Bay’s Zielia page.
